Teacher recruitment of teacher in Delhi School: A Day after a Delhi High Court bench pulled up the government for poor infrastructure in schools, NGO Social Jurist moved a plea to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the Directorate of Education, Delhi government as well as the departments of education of the three municipal corporations for failing to fill vacancies of over 20,000 posts of teachers despite court orders.

The plea is scheduled to be heard before the High Court on October 17 when the court reconvenes after the Dussehra holidays. In the plea filed through advocates Ashok Aggarwal and Khagesh Jha, the NGO has said the Division Bench of the High Court in December 2001 had passed directions to fill all vacancies.

According to the plea, 15,40,691 students are studying in 1,011 schools run by government. Another 3,29,000 students are studying in 719 primary schools run by North Delhi Municipal Corporation, 2.86 lakh students in 579 primary schools run by SDMC and 3.50 lakh students are studying in 387 primary schools run by East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
